Excitement in Enschede and our mum Marie remembers the day

Eight year old Marie was taken by her father to see Jan Olieslager taking off in his aeroplane from a paddock in her hometown Enschede, in the autumn of 1910.
Are the Leferinks amongst that group of spectators just visible behind the fence?

Fifty-nine years later, at the other side of the world in Australia, Marie saw Apollo 11 taking off from the Kennedy Space Centre, alas from the comfy of her favourite chair in the lounge room. Four days later on July 20, 1969, Commander Neil Armstrong became the first man on the moon. He said the historic words, "One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind."
