Located in central western Victoria, 260 km west of Melbourne. Renowned for its rugged mountain ranges, cultural heritage and spectacular spring flower displays
Gariwerd is the indigenous name for the area, the Jardwadjali and Djab Wurrung people lived in and around the mountains and valleys for thousands of years.
Unfortunately vast areas of the park were closed due to enormous devastation when the Grampians were hit by torrential rains over three days in January, causing massive landslips and flash flooding. Raging torrents of waters rushed down, sweeping along everything in their path. Huge boulders were dislodged and moved vast distances, towering eucalyptus trees were uprooted and washed away like matchsticks and walking tracks and picnic facilities were destroyed.
