A sword above the dining table, not for cutting the meat

‘ Michael ,Archangel be our defender in our struggle, so that we won’t be doomed, at the terrible day of judgement.’

Marie youngest brother Frans was studying at St. Louis Teachers Training College in Oudenbosch and she received a postcard from him in March 1934. It read as follows:
‘Dear Marie and Antoon,
First of all a Blessed Easter. At the other side of this card is a photo of my painting in Oudenbosch.
Perhaps I have written about it earlier, that I was busy with it, otherwise I shall tell you about it later.
The measurements are 2.33m.x 1.25m.
Heartfelt greetings,
Frans’.

Frans artistic talent came to the fore with his the magnificent painting of Michael Archangel shown here. It hung on the wall of the dining room of St. Louis College in Oudenbosch for many years until the building was pulled down in the eighties. He also drew a realistic portrait of his father Bernard Leferink and later became known for his beautiful birth notice creations and left behind many pastel pictures and sketches.
