Gradus Leferink alias Poeten Graads
Our ancestor with sabel seen here in sheep clothing was de last night watchman of Haaksbergen.
He was the son of Berend Jan Leferink who lived on Blankenburg 8, who also was a watchman since 1872, besides being a shopkeeper as well, he died in 1885.
The shire council was in need of a successor and the eyes fell on son Gradus, who walked the streets for the next 34 years.
On February 14th ,1919 he was honourably discharged when Haaksbergen got its second rural constable and the council decided to abolish the night watch man function.
Just before Gradus left his job, his yearly salary was increased to 250 guilders.
