Kurt Melde and daughter Martha in 1935

Antoon’s niece Annie Bosmans married Kurt Melde, a ladies hairdresser of German origin in Arnhem on 19th January 1934.
Annie met her husband at ‘Maison Ten Berge’ in the Ketel Street in Arnhem. This was apparently a very stylish place.
Kurt was already some years employed as a ladies hairdresser in Leeuwarden and Arnhem. I wonder if he left Germany because of the Nazi disturbances of the early thirties. He originated from the ancient town of Zerbst, situated on the river Nuthe in the duchy of Anhalt, about 40km SE.of Magdeburg on the railway line to Leipzig. Many prominent people lived or hailed from this region.
Dessau-born philosopher and author Moses Mendelssohn, grandfather of composer Felix Mendelssohn.
Johann Sebastian Bach, composer who lived in Koethen when he composed the Brandenburger Concertos and The Well-tempered Klavier.
Poet Wilhelm Müller wrote the text of the Franz Schubert Lieder ‘Winterreise’ and ‘Schöne Müllerin’
Then Hugo Junkers from Dessau, the aircraft designer, built the first aeroplane that was totally made of metal.
